The initial college information session is a good time to examines an institution’s sexual violence prevention and response efforts. Below are suggested questions that will help to determine what schools are doing to foster a Culture of Respect.
- What prevention programs are in place on your campus?
- Do you require all first year and transfer students to attend prevention programs?
- How frequently do you require ongoing prevention training for students during the four years?
- Are faculty members trained to talk to students who might come to them with complaints of sexual misconduct?
- Are prevention programs specific to campus groups, i.e. athletic teams, clubs, fraternities, and sororities?
- Do you have student-run sexual violence organizations?
- Is your school under investigation for a Title IX violation?
- Do you conduct regular climate surveys on sexual violence? Are the results available?
- How easily accessible are your Clery statistics?
- Do you have a dedicated victim advocate to help survivors with medical/recovery and adjudication decisions?
- Do you provide housing and educational accommodations for survivors?
- Do you provide counseling for survivors?
- What is your policy on sanctions for students found responsible for sexual misconduct?
- Do you have a method for anonymous reporting of sexual violence?
- Do you track anonymous reports of perpetration to help identify patterns of campus sexual violence?
